CentOS 5.5 ext3 filesystem go read-only when repair-filesytem

I deleted a partition with the use of fdisk. But I forgot to delete the line for
the partition in /etc/fstab. When I rebooted the machine, CentOS couldn't boot
normally. It went to (filesystm repair) mode. I wanted to edit /etc/fstab to
remove the aforementioned line. But I couldn't do it since /'s ext3 filesystem
was readonly. So I reinstalled CentOS.

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-filesytem-goes-read-only.html says
"mount -o remount /" will fix this problem. I don't have a chance to try it
since I have reinstalled CentOS.
