9.1. Introduction
Before Google Earth Engine, it was very difficult to create timelapse animations from satellite imagery. The process was very time-consuming and required a lot of manual work, such as selecting and downloading satellite imagery, processing the images, and creating a timelapse. The process could take hours to days. With Google Earth Engine, it is now possible to create timelapse animations from remote sensing imagery in a few lines of code. In this chapter, we will learn how to create timelapse animations from different data sources, such as NAIP, Landsat, Sentinel, MODIS, and GOES. We will also walk through the process of downloading an image collection as a GIF image and add content (e.g., text, logo, color) to the image. At the end of this chapter, you should feel comfortable creating timelapse animations from any image collection available in Google Earth Engine.
