三、Talking about Apartment
Man: What do you think of this flat?
Woman:It's not really all that good. The bedroom is a little small for us.
Man: Small, but it should be enough for our needs, Ithink.
Woman:But there's no hot water after 10 at night. Sometimes I like to have a hotshower before bed, especially in the winter. It feels good.
Man: That's true. But I love the living room; it'shuge and filled with sunshine.
Woman:True, and I like the kitchen. I's new and well equipped.
Man: It has a great balcony, with an incredible viewof the park.
Woman:You're right. The view is spectacular. But that bedroom is so small. We'd neverbe able to fit all of our stuff in there.
Man: Maybe we could get some new furniture. Betterstuff.
Woman: Ihaven't thought of that.
四、Before Leaving Home
Boy: Susan, good evening. Why are you so dressed up?
Susan: Iam on my way out to a New Year's banquet. How do I look? Is my make-up OK?
Boy: You look great. Your make-up is perfect.
Susan:Do you think I should wear a different dress?
Boy: No, the one you have on looks fabulous, especially with your hair like that.
Susan:Thanks for saying. Do you have any ideas which necklace I should wear?
Boy: With that dress I'd say your white diamondnecklace would look perfect.
Susan:Thanks for helping out. Now that I'm ready, what are you doing tonight?
Boy: Not much, just a house party with some friends.
Susan:Sounds fun. Anyone I know?
Boy: Yeah, most of the people are from our office.
Susan:Sounds like I'm missing out on a good time. Oh, well, there is always nextyear.
Boy: I'm sure you'll have fun no matter where yougo. Remember to take your bag.
五、After Getting Home
Jane: Home at last. Tonight we have a lot ofhomework though.
Boy: Areyou saying we don't have time to watch our favorite show tonight? Jane, youknow I really don't like our teacher all that much. He gives far too muchhomework. He criticizes me in front of everyone all the time.
Jane: To tell the truth, I don't really like himeither. He's kind of boring and not very active. He always looks unhappy too.
Boy:Yes, and he also …
Jane: Do you think we should be talking about himlike this behind his back?
Boy:Probably not. After all he is our teacher. We should try to find something niceto say. If you can't say something nice you shouldn't say anything at all.
Jane: I absolutely agree. It's getting dark. Weshould finish our homework now.
六、Cooking
Adam: I'd like to help pitch in with dinner.
Woman:Really? You're joking.
Adam: No, I'd like to do something special for youon your birthday.
Woman:I'd like that. Alright, put on this apron first.
Adam: OK… Now how can I help, hon?
Woman:Hmm, let me see… Boil some water and then whisk two eggs.
Adam: Easy. I could do that with my eyes closed.
(after awhile)
Adam: Done.
Woman:Not bad. Okay, now take some meat and potatoes from the fridge.
Adam: How many potatoes do you need?
Woman:Three. And bring four bell peppers.
Adam: Gotcha… OK. Here they are.
Woman:Now wash them, then dice the potatoes and bell peppers. Then slice the meat.
Adam: Where's the peeler?
Woman:It's in the cabinet… Adam, the gas cooker doesn't work.
Adam: What? Oh, shit! I cut my finger.
Woman:Let me take a look at that… I can't stop the bleeding. We need to go to thehospital.
Adam: I guess cooking is not as easy as I thought.
