The professor in the listening part thinks the arguement in the reading passage is inaccurate.
First of all, though some birds' population is shrinking, most birds' number population is growing. Because humans privide birds with more habitat. For instance, pigeons and other birds number is increasing.
Secondly, new crops, which can produce more food per unit of land, continue to introduce to the United States every year. At the same time, the area of agriculture land is decreasing in US. So the agriculture would not result in the further destruction of birds population as the reading mentions.
Thirdly, the chemical pesticides are changed in two ways. They are no longer as poisonous as they used to be. They are less poisonous. Furthermore, more pest-resistant crops are designed in order to fight against the pest. These crops are genetic resist to pests and don't have any harm to birds.
