Eclipse can retrieve type hierarchy sometimes, but sometimes can not. i.e. it doesn't work sporadically.
Solution:
Delete all .index files and savedIndexNames.txt located at .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.core
There is probably a bug in eclipse leading to cache corruption during application crash
